It has been a little while since our last post, here in Likwit Land...Likwitonians have been working new jobs to fill our time and wallets.
In the last six months, we have been walking through a few phases of building a 'Beerbox', which, when completed, should provide a sweet and ample environment for cultivating beer. And, as you can see from this site, we are all about Good Beer - anywhere in the world.
The Beerbox, in its current form is yet to be completed, as we wish to add a Debian Controller for temperature. The Debian (Linux computer), once hooked up, will control the temperature to 72-73 Degrees Fahernheit - our optimal temperature for fermentation. Our latest endeavour was a trip south -- This time to Ecuador, neighbour to last years trip, Peru. We decided to traverse this land with our very close friends from Emotionpla.net. Our friends are master planners when it comes to voyages, and planned us a serious trip that included mountain hikes, jungle rides, a tour of the Galapagos Islands, and even a climb up a volcano! If interested in a tour, visit them at their website.
What a beautiful country - The Galapagos Islands are phenomenal for animals. They litter the beaches (Sea Lions), the rocks (Iguanas) and surrounding water (Birds and Turtles). The Highlands of the Andes is full of picturesque mountain tops, Llamas, and Quitchoa speaking Natives. Climbing Cotopaxi, one of the largest Active Volcanoes in the world, was a challenge for endurance. However, spending time in a few schools describing Canada to the children was a very rewarding feeling. Even the time spent helping a local woman with her daily chores, as we really took up the way of life for a day or two.
Really quite impressive, as words cannot begin to describe the feelings and emotions that thrive in this land....

Well, if you haven't already heard - The Liberals have taken the cake and eaten it too. Their landslide victory in last Thursday's election should put them into the driver's seat in the coming months. It appears that Ontarians are enthusiastic about choosing change, and are happy to see the Tories tip their way out of town....
Dalton seems to be a nice guy, has a younger head on his shoulders, and is talking values and ideals much in tune with Ontarians and Canadians in general. Personally, I see people embracing change to suit our lives better. We all see the problems with our Education system, our health care system, our Insurance system, and our Power System....hopefully Dalton can and will take care of these issues for the masses that have spoken. (ie their vote). |

Well, it looks like election time in this great province of ours...I can understand if no one outside of Ontario is really interested in this, but it must be reported on.
The election is tomorrow, October 2nd. My hope is that anyone but the current administration gets elected. I am not happy with our current form of government, basically because of cuts to our health care, cuts to our education, and privatization of our Nuclear Energy. Which, no doubt, aided in the Blackout of 2003 (ok, this might be debateable), because of our lack of Canadian grown energy...

Summer is winding down in the T dot O dot....but as the days get a bit colder, we appreciate some finer, darker beers. Last year we made it to Wellington Brewery, this year, we've visited the Steam Whistle Brewery, and there is a hope to see the Amsterdam Brewery.
Steam Whistle Beer has a unique pilsner taste, fit for a fine summers' day....however, Amsterdam's Nut Brown Ale is a much tastier, and heartier beer for the oncoming autumn season. It really does have a nutty flavour, taken from the mix of barley, hops, and yeast, used to make the beer. |

One of the nice things about traveling to a foreign country is that it allows one to see what that particular country has to offer. Our Peruvian Likwitonian trip allowed us to see, feel, and taste a different life.. While we were there, we managed to scoop up some Cuban Cohiba cigars for a very decent price.... The Cohiba Robustos came in a box, 25 deep. These are mighty fine cigars, and mighty tasty, I might add.
There are many places on the web to learn about Cubans or, in particular, Cohiba. It is also nice to see the differences around the world with the name Cohiba, and the way the US has treated the name and the Cigars. (which, we feel, is a real travesty, because a particular goverment has a particular Embargo against Cuba and its products) |

Not much happening here in Likwit Land -- Except for the last weekend, where the whole troop picked up it boots, and headed to the Toronto Festival of Beer
A great time was had by the people involved, unfortunately, no photos were taken at this prime event. There were plenty of different beers, including Wellington Brewery, Cameron's Brewery, and Unibroue. The three have great beers, most notably the County Ale, Auburn Ale, and Blanche de Chambly, respectively.
There were a lot of people present, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves -- even the "unlucky" ones at the end of the day (hey Benny!). Every year we make it out to this event, and next year will be no different!!
Cheers to all the breweries that made this event excellent!

Howdy all
Those coming to check out photos, they are here. Some of the photos are a bit blurry/dark, and huge. This being my first time with a digital camera on vacation, there is always a learning curve....
We have been over the mountains and down into the jungle. We leave the jungle area of the country in a few days, and will be heading for Machu Picchu...and Lake Titicaca!
See you soon.

Well, as far as likwtonians are concerned, Beer makes a decent drink. The days are getting shorter, the nights, longer. (of course, this all depends on how you see things). These shorter days--in terms of sunlight--have also been shorter nights, in terms of sleep--because of contracts. This always causes many a likwitonian to have some Merry Cheer, and why not, especially in the form of the age old hop and barley style.
Okay, we'll get to the point. The infamous group of likwitonian heroes trekked to Guelph Ontario, where they toured the now famous Wellington Brewery. Wellington, as you may already know, was the General whom defeated Napolean at the battle of Waterloo. That being said, this Beer is quality Beer. The excellent mixture of the mash, makes this an esteemed quality beer for the holiday season (not to mention, year round).
The best part of our tour was the lead by the Owner/BrewMaster Michael. One of the most friendly guys we have met in awhile, he walked us through the intricacies of owing/operating a brewery. This most exciting tour detailed the whole process of beer making, and included talk of competition points of view versus @home points of view. For the owner, he sure knew his business. We grilled him for a good hour on marketing/sales/service, and he knew how to handle us and his business. Cudos to Michael, Welllington Brewery, and certainly, the Beer. (if you get a chance, pick up the County Ale - - Our Favorite here in Likwit Land!!)
